    Entered the USAF as an aviation cadet 19 August 1952, Class 53-F. Graduated with Class 53-F, 1 October 1953, Laredo, Texas.

    Flying training was done with the 3305th pilot training squadron (contract primary) Malden Air Base. Soloed 20 November 1952 at Malden Air Base, Missouri in the North American T-6G. Basic training with the 3640th Pilot Training Wing, Laredo Air Force Base, Texas, flew the North American T-28A and Lockheed T-33A, Advanced training was at the USAF Advanced Flying School (INTCP), Moody Air Force Base, Valdosta, Georgia. Completed instrument and Lockheed F-94C (Starfire) training 13 February 1954.

    Flew the Lockheed F-94C with the 29th Fighter Interceptor Squadron (ADC) Malmstrom Air Force Base, Great Falls, Montana from 19 March 1954 to 15 September 1956. Was 1st Lieutenant rated combat ready and an instructor pilot in the F-94C. PAFSC was 1124B. Issued National Defense Service Medal. Honorably discharged from the United States Air Force 7 May 1970.

    Honorably discharged 31 August 1958 from 152D Fighter Interceptor Squadron 162D Fighter Group (AD) Ariz AFNG Tucson, Arizona rated PAFSC 1125 A, North American F-100A.

    Federal Aviation Administration Commercial Pilot, Airplane Single Engine Land, Instrument and Glider.

    Have 320 flights in a glider. Earned International FAI Silver Badge US2247, 18 May 1973 in a Schweizer 1-26D Sailplane at Estrella Sailport, Arizona. Flew a Schweizer Sailplane 2-32 to 25,000 feet in the mountain wave, 6 December 1975, Waverly West Sailport, Fort Collins, Colorado.

    Have flown Cessna 120, Taylorcraft, Aeronca Champ, Stinson Voyager 150 and Cessna 172.
