I believe I first gained interest in aviation at the age of 11. During that time I used to launch homemade gliders and parachutes from the top walkway of an abandoned rusty water tank/tower.
During World War II I served as crew chief in the Army Air Corps in the South Pacific on Saipan and Iwo Jima. I was attached to the 72nd Fighter Squadron, crewing P-38 and P-51 aircraft.
After World War II I was employed by the Naval Aeronautical Engineering Department of the Naval Air Rework Facility until I retired. The purpose of the facility was to modify and repair naval aircraft. Having engineering cognizance on the A-6 aircraft, I was responsible for its maintenance.
