    Wilson Teague Herren 1892-1971

Wilson Teague Herren was a pilot from early in the 19th century and got his pilot's license circa 1913. He flew photo flights in Alaska and Mexico before he enlisted in the Army in WWI. As his obit said, he was put in the infantry, despite his flying experience. A typical Army blunder. He was to fly the endurance flight out of Sky Harbor airport near Chicago in 1930, but the flight aborted early and the hunter brothers took over that summer and set a new record of 520 hours, refueling in the air. Herren was a sponsor and oversaw the ground crew. He invented the 2 cycle Herren engine, which was in the Chicago Museum of Science for many years, and had a contract with Chang Kai-Chek to furnish a plane a week in the early 30's from his plant in Barrington, Illinois until Chang was ousted! Wilson Herren was a pilot until his late 70's and maintained a Cessna for his business until he retired.
