Print, Etching on Paper, RESCUE OF THE AERONAUTS IN THE NORTH SEA
Etching on paper depicting the Rescue of the Aeronauts in the North Sea, 1874. Print shows a rescuing at sea. Aeronauts Jules Duruof and wife and balloon partner, Caroline, are seen being rescued at sea from the basket of their balloon "Le Tricolore" which started to sink after losing altitude off the coast of England during a storm. Duruof is seen keeping his wife supported while a two men in a smaller fishing boat attempt to rescue them. The balloon itself was carried off by the wind after the rescue, but it was later found in the Skagerrak area.
