Etienne et Joseph Montgolfier. Three scenes depicted in circular "medallions," one larger one at the top of the piece, with two smaller circles below. Large top circle is a neo-classical double profile of French balloonists and brothers, Etienne and Joseph Montgolfier. The top image is based on a design by Houdan for a gold medal. The bottom left circle depicts a plan for a monument to J.A.C. Charles. The bottom right circle presents a ma[ of the Montgolfier flight of November 21, 1783 and the Charles flight of December 1, 1782.
