Print, Engraving on Paper, Uncolored, UNKNOWN [BALLOON OVER DOVER CASTLE, 1785]
Uncolored engraving of Blanchard and Jeffries over Dover Castle, January 10, 1785. Spectators are on land to the left, and water with ships to the right. French and British flags are flown from the balloon. Parts of the image have corresponding numbers, but the key is not present. The engraving appears to have been cut from a larger page, and is adhered to a paper backing. Engraving is not titled, but handwriting on the reverse of the paper backing identifies the scene as "Balloon Over Dover Castle, 1785."
