Rectangular wooden block, with rounded corners, painted gray, with half of a plastic compass secured on one side with a screw; a Sterling 582 Professional aluminum compass secured on bottom of block; a moveable sighting dowel, painted black, 12 inches long, mounted to top corner of the block; the eye piece of the sighting dowel, at one end of the dowel, closests to the block, is simply a small screwed in eyebolt; a small, short, cut off nail at other end of the dowel is the sighting line or marker. By means of a mounting rod protruding from the bottom of the block, the whole is mounted on a wooden base consisting of two layers of a eight-sided wooden blocks, sandwich fashion, but with a separation or space in between, the two halves of this wooden sandwich joined and held at a distance from each other by screws; underneath lower layer of this sandwich are three three adjustable thumbscrews and three regular screws, and their respective washers, and bolts. The three regular screws serve as legs for the whole. Marked "YMCA Space Pioneers" in white, on red plastic adhesive tape strip, along bottom side of main wood block on top; another adhesive red tape strip, with the wood "Elevation" in white, on one side of the top eight-sided block.
