Colored etching with aquatint on paper. Sphère Aréostatique ou Globe Volant. An image of the first small gass balllon ascending over the Champ de Mars on August 27, 1783. J.A.C. Charles built the balloon with the assistnace of the Robert brothers, and constructed the hydrogen gneratoing system, not shown in this image. The Ecole Militair in the background.
