Cylindrical, with first and second stages having the same diameter; second stage with a tapering adapter to smaller diameter third stage and adjoining Instrument Unit, with conical fairing to protect Apollo Lunar Module and Command Module spacecraft on top of that; on top of Command Module nosecone is the cylindrical Launch Escape System (LES) solid rocket motor in center and smaller diameter jettison cylindrical motor for quickly jettisoning the Command Module in the event of an accident during launch;painted white with large black vertical or horizontal rectangular sections throughout length of rocket for ease in visual tracking and monitoring; set of four delta fins at base in between of which are flaring skirts atop the protruding five F-1 engine nozzles.
