Poster, Advertising, Commercial Aviation, UNITED AIRLINES THE HISTORIC EAST
Color photographic print advertising Unitred Airlines service to the eastern United States, including Philadelphia, Boston, and Washington, D.C. An assemblage of objects is arranged and represents the revolutionary break of the Thirteen Colonies from British control and the beginning of the United States of America. Each city is represented by an object in the image - Philadelphia by a map of its layout, Boston by a whaling ship, and Washington, D.C. by a sextant. The poster also features other elements recalling New England - autumn leaves, a Betsy Ross Flag with needles and thread, and small die cast toys of Revolutionary War soldiers, cannon, and eagle upon a wood background. "The Historic East" appears as if carved or burned into an Early American Colonial wood furnishing element. Offset Photolithograph.
