Vue Prise de la Grille de Château, 1 December, 1783. A balloon flies highly over a densely wooded forest. A crowd has gathered below to witness the event. The flight depicted in this hand colored print is that of Professor Jacques Charles and Marie-Noel Robert. The two aeronauts made the first manned flight of a gas balloon, leaving from the Jardin de Tuileries.
