Colored lithograph of the fatal descent of Mr. Cocking's parachute from Vauxhall Gardens. The Royal Nassau Balloon, July 24, 1837, piloted by Charles Green accompanied by Edward Spencer, carried Cocking to an altitude of 55,000 feet. The image shows the parachute detached from the balloon and collapsing. It is descending rapidly and Mr. Cocking is in the basket waving his arms.This is the right half of a larger page that had two lithographs side by side. It has at some point been cut in half to display the lithographs seperately. A20140528000 is the left half. 'The Sketch taken by Eyewitness.'
