This is a Type 3 thruster (curatorial designation) of 18 Project Mercury thrusters formerly catalogued under one number as Cat. # 1972-1138. Type 3 is the largest size of the three. There are 14 Type 3's among the 18. The description of the Type 3 thruster is as follows: Rod with flaring nozzle at right angle from the vertical welded on at top on left hand side; six-sided bolt top on bottom end of rod and adjoining to sloping shank and smaller diameter rod protruding from bottom and in line with main rod; overall, stainless steel. This thruster does not contain a green golf-tee shaped plastic nozzle protective plug (removeable) inserted into nozzle as found on other Types 3 thrusters.
