Achille Collas Physical Description
Uncolored steel engraving of the front and reverse views of eight commemorative medals and coins. Some of the coins relate to ballooning. Numbers with the views appear to show which views are part of the same coin. This engraving was made using the machine invented by Achille Collas (1795-1859) that copied the relief and chiaroscuro of bas-relief objects onto engraved steel plates. Collas referred to these as 'numismatic engravings.'
