This is a doll version of the Mercury spacesuit. Once B. F. Goodrich had completed all the spacesuits for the Mercury program in the early 1960s, they made nine versions of this doll wearing a Mercury spacesuit. One each went to the seven Mercury astroanuts, one went to the chief designer of the suit, and the final went ot the project manager.

The spacesuits were built around a commercially available three-foot doll and use some of the same materials as used in the genuine suits. The exceptions are the boots and the helmets, which were likely commercially availalble in toy stores.

We do not know the provenance of this object. There are two other examples that we know about. One is in the collection of the National Museum of the United States Air Force. Another is housed in the archives of the University of Akron.
