 Physical Description Uncolored lithograph of a portrait of aeronaut Eugene Pierre Godard. Image shows him from the knees upward, with a feathered hat in his left hand and his right hand resting on a table. Eugene Pierre Godard (August 27, 1827-November 9, 1890) was a native of Clichy, France. During the course of his long career he worked as an architectural draftsman, magician, gymnast, acrobat, and professional balloonist and parachutist. He also manufactured balloons and parachutes. He made more than 2,500 ascents in Europe and America. In 1863 he constructed a balloon of 14,000 cubic meters, reputed to be the largest constructed to that time. During the Siege of Paris he helped to organize the balloon post. 'Gedr. b J. Höfelich.' Dimensions 2-D - Unframed (H x W): 50.8 × 36.2cm (20 in. × 14 1/4 in.)
