Physical Description
One swatch, 4” square of doped cotton envelope fabric, glued to a 1928 calendar measuring 5” x 7”. Written text on the calendar identifies the items. Swatch of fabric is from the outer skin of the Italian built semi-rigid airship Norge which made the first flight from Spitsbergen to Alaska, over the North Pole, May 11-13, 1926. The airship was constructed by designer Umberto Nobile, who piloted the craft on the transpolar flight.
