Space shuttle astronaut Pamela Melroy wore this flight suit for travel and public appearances related to her third and final mission--as commander of STS-120 on Discovery in 2007. On this trip, the crew delivered and installed the Harmony node on the International Space Station. Melroy was one of three women selected to be shuttle pilots, and one of two who served as both pilot and commander of shuttle missions. This flight suit sports the STS-120 mission patch and the Mach 25 patch that shuttle pilots earned for orbital flight at 25 times the speed of sound (about 18,000 miles per hour or 31,000 kilometers per hour).
Melroy gave this garment and various other possessions and papers to the Museum in 2018.
