This sterling silver trophy cup was presented by the citizens of Indianapolis to Dr. Goethe Link for winning a National Balloon Race in June of 1909 held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Dr. Lin and J.R. Irwin won the trophies for both distance and duration in a gas balloon. Following the race, Link gave up balloon racing and focused on his career as a surgeon.

It has three ear-shaped handles, 120 degrees apart, separating three engravings which are: a balloon and "June 1909" surrounded by a laurel wreath; "offered by citizens of Indianapolis"; "won by Geothe Link".
