This visor assembly is an earlier version of the type that was worn on the lunar surface. This A6-L visor assembly was not fitted with a beta-cloth cover.

The A6-L Lunar Extravehicular Visor Assembly consisted of a polycarbonate shell onto which the visors, hinges, eyeshades, and latch were attached. It had two visors, one covered with a thermal control coating and the other with a gold optical coating.

This helmet was worn over the pressure helmet and fastened with a latch during EVA periods, and provided impact, micrometeoroid, thermal, ultraviolet and infrared light protection.

Transferred to the National Air and Space Museum from NASA in 1981
