This lanyard was part of the survival equipment issued to John Glenn for his historic Friendship 7 mission in February, 1962. Survival equipment was issued to astronauts for use in the event of a mission abort and emergency landing.

Transferred to the National Air and Space Museum from NASA in 1967.
