This is a 1:25 scale model of the Apollo and Soyuz spacecraft as they docked in orbit, the culmination of the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project in July 1975. This mission was the first international human spaceflight mission. After years or negotiations and testing, three Apollo astronauts from the United States and two Soviet cosmonauts performed joint experiments while their spacecraft were docked in orbit. This model was made by Pacific Minatures for Rockwell International which had been the primary NASA contractor for the Apollo program.
NASA transferred this object to the museum in 1975.
This object is not on display at the National Air and Space Museum. It is either on loan or in storage.
