This is a metal model of the combined Apollo Command Module, Launch Escape System and Spacectraft-LM Adapter built and used for wind tunnel testing by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Mannned Space Flight Center (MSFC). This testing was conducted in the development stage of the Apollo program to observe and measure the aerodynamic properties of the launch vehicle. This model was 1 of 58 the MSC transferred to the Smithsonian in July 1971. (The MSFC has been renamed the NASA Johnson Space Center).
This object is not on display at the National Air and Space Museum. It is either on loan or in storage.
