This is a pelvic block that supported an astronaut's lower vertebra and pelvic structure in a Gemini capsule's seat. Made of wood, metal, and foam, pelvic blocks were contoured to each individual astronaut. They were placed between the backboard assembly and the seat. This pelvic block was made for astronaut Frank Borman and was apparently used for training purposes. Its manufacturer is unknown.
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration transferred this artifact to NASM in 1970.
