The U.S. Army Europe (AE) produced this poster as a Graphic Training Aid (GTA). During the Cold War with the Soviet Union, it was important for U.S. troops to be able to identify Soviet equipment in the field. This poster depicts four Soviet Free Rocket Over Ground (FROG) platforms, a short-range artillery rocket system.
Graphic Training Aids have long been produced by the U.S. Army to assist instructors in the education of troops. The Army produced a vast array of instructional aids for any military subject. Posters, in particular, were designed as reminders or supplements to class instruction, and produced singularly or in sets to access the visual memory of the soldier.
