American astronaut Walter M. "Wally" Schirra used this spacesuit in training to prepare for the flight of Gemini VI in 1965. The suit is a G3-C, which means that it was the standard suit for the commander of a Gemini mission, manufactured by the David Clark Company. Adapted from pilots' high altitude pressure suits, the G3-C was designed to protect astronauts during an emergency during flight.

NASA's Manned Spacecraft Center transferred this suit and its gloves and helmet to the museum after the end of the Gemini program.
