This device was used to align an on-board navigation and guidance system by sensing the Earth's horizon. It is unflown. The sensor may have been used for an Apollo spacecraft, or a US Air Force satellite.
NASA transferred this sensor to the Museum in 1973.
This object is on display in Human Spaceflight at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, VA.
