This package of gloves was returned from the first Shuttle mission, STS-1 (Columbia), in 1981. On Shuttle missions, astronauts protect their hands while doing such tasks as cleaning cabin surfaces and eating utensils with germicidal wipes, handling experiment specimens, and drawing blood. Their onboard supplies include disposable sanitary gloves.

Transferred from NASA to the Smithsonian Institution in 1982.
