Each astronaut has a personal hygiene kit with selected products for cleanliness, grooming, and comfort. Some crew members sleep better when they wear ear plugs and a mask to block ambient noise and light. The hygiene kit for John Young, commander of the first Space Shuttle mission in 1981, included this sleep mask, ear plugs, and other toiletries.
