W. S. Tyler Incorporated, a division of the Combustion Engineering Corporation, manufactured this sieve, a device for separating materials, for the Atlantic Research Corporation (ARC). Founded shortly after World War II, ARC used the device, with a type 24 mesh, to manufacture solid propellants for small rocket motors.
Meshes of different sizes are used to determine the particle size distribution of granular materials, such as those used to make solid propellants for rocket motors.
Transferred to NASM from the Atlantic Research Corporation.
This object is on display in Rockets & Missiles at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, VA.
