Sieve, 840 Microns, for Solid Fuel Rocket Propellant Manufacture

Display Status:

This object is on display in the Rockets & Missiles at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, VA.

Collection Item Summary:

The Fisher Scientific Company manufactured this sieve, a device for separating materials, for the Atlantic Research Corporation (ARC). Founded shortly after World War II, ARC used the device, with a capacity of 840 microns, to manufacture solid propellants for small rocket motors.

Meshes of different sizes are used to determine the particle size distribution of granular materials, such as those used to make solid propellants for rocket motors.

Transferred to NASM from the Atlantic Research Corporation.
