Each astronaut has a personal hygiene kit with selected products for cleanliness, grooming, and comfort. Some crew members sleep better when they wear ear plugs and a mask to block ambient noise and light. These ear plugs from John Young's sleep kit were returned from the first Space Shuttle mission (STS-1, Columbia) in 1981.
NASA transferred his sleep kit to the Smithsonian after the mission.
