Sun Filter, Apollo 11

Collection Item Summary:

When sighting the Guidance and Navigation telescope toward the sun, the sun's rays were attentuated by this filter. Two filters were supplied to the Command Module: one for use when the astronauts were wearing spacesuits, the other when in a shirtsleeve environment. This filter was for the latter use. It was instsalled in the Apollo Command Module "Columbia" and flown on the Apollo 11 mission to the Moon, July 1969.

Transferred from NASA to the Museum in 1973.
