This T-shirt belonged to space shuttle astronaut Pamela Melroy, who acquired it during return-to-flight preparations after the tragic loss of Columbia and its crew in 2003. Melroy's fellow female pilot astronaut, Eileen Collins, commanded the first mission, STS-114 on Discovery, when shuttle flights resumed in 2005. Both the front and back of the shirt bear return-to-flight messages. T-shirts, posters, banners, bumper stickers, and other mission-related items buoyed workforce morale during this difficult period by expressing confidence that spaceflight would continue.

Melroy gave this shirt, and various other personal possessions and papers, to the Museum in 2018.
