The Global Positioning System (GPS) has become a ubiquitous, but often invisible, part of modern life. Dr. Parkinson, chief architect and original program director for GPS in the 1970s, will present the history, applications, and future of GPS and the Global Navigation Satellite System. Central to operation of GPS is the relationship between time and navigation. The Global Positioning System is explored in Time and Navigation: The Untold Story of Getting from Here to There, opening at the Museum in Washington, DC on April 12.
