The Mars Science Laboratory rover, dubbed "Curiosity" will be launched to Mars later this year. The rover is much larger than the Mars Exploration Rovers and is about the size of a small car. Curiosity will be sent to a location on Mars where there may be evidence preserved that can help tell whether the planet might ever have been habitable. The process for selecting the landing site began in 2006 and after consideration of more than 60 sites, the final decision on where the rover will land will be made by NASA soon. A description of the final four candidate sites will include discussion of why each is in the running for the final landing site.
The Ask An Expert lecture series at the National Mall building is presented every Wednesday at noon. A Museum staff member talks to the public about the history, collection, or personalities related to a specific artifact or exhibition in the Museum.
