Join the National Air and Space Society for our 2016 Vice Adm. Donald D. Engen Flight Jacket Night lecture. Featuring astronaut and Coast Guard Captain Daniel C. Burbank, this year’s lecture is in celebration of the Centennial of Coast Guard Aviation.

Burbank, the second Coast Guard astronaut, served as mission specialist on Space Shuttle missions STS-106 and STS-115, flight engineer on International Space Station Expedition 29, and commander of Expedition 30. During the 163 days aboard for ISS Expedition 29/30, Burbank and his crew completed dozens of repairs and enhancements to its systems. Burbank has logged a total of 188 days in space, with seven hours, 11 minutes of spacewalk time.

Burbank received his commission from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in 1985. In 1987, he went through flight training and became an instructor pilot, serving at various Coast Guard stations in North Carolina, Massachusetts, and Alaska. He has a master's degree in aeronautical science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Burbank has logged more than 4,000 flight hours, primarily in Coast Guard helicopters, and has flown more than 2,000 missions, including more than 300 search and rescue missions.

The lecture is for members of the Museum's National Air and Space Society and their guests. Become a member today. There is no charge to attend, but advance reservations are required and seating is limited. Reserve your ticket below.
