Eugene Cernan's G4-C Pressure Suit (Gemini IX-A) on the left and Developmental Cover Layer (Gemini) on the right are shown on display in the exhibition Outside the Spacecraft: 50 Years of Extra-Vehicular Activity. Museum conservators try to extend the life and integrity of objects that have become fragile over time. For these two objects, displaying them in a reclined position helps to protect the fragile interior rubber bladder layer and woven Link-Net restraint layer by removing excess weight. Because the boots are sewn onto the legs of the suit, a reclined display removes that additional pressure.
