A Year of Isolation

How do astronauts work through isolation?

"You have to be able to communicate effectively...that is the most important thing you have to do." ~ Astronaut Peggy Whitson

In some ways, your year during the pandemic may have had challenges that are similar to those faced by astronauts in space. Many experts who have lived above the Earth have shared their advice on how to be resilient during hard times of isolation. Read more about their stories then share your experiences below:

  • Astronaut Know How to Handle Isolation in Space
  • I Spent a Year in Space, and I have Tips on Isolation to Share

Eat Like an Astronaut

Eating in space is different than eating on Earth, and learners will have to be creative if they want to eat like an astronaut. With these recipes and plans, learners of all ages can try meals that some astronauts might have in space!

  • Fill up with Space Macaroni and Cheese!
  • Try dehydrating your food at home!
  • Can you follow an astronaut's meal plan?

Family Fun with Our Youngest Explorers

Dress a doll like an astronaut with your young ones in this space activity!

Looking for more space adventures with your young one? Tune in to our newest Flights of Fancy Story Time on Tuesday, April 13. Museum educator Ann Caspari will read the original story Three Friends and Mo Spacewalk, a story about the characters' pretend visit to the International Space Station! After the story, Ann will demonstrate how to make a space snack. This story and activity are perfect for Pre-K kids!

Soar Together @ Air and Space is made possible by the generous support of Northrop Grumman.
