New Horizons captured this image of Charon, Pluto’s largest moon, on July 13. It reveals several interesting surface features. A line of cliffs and troughs (red arrows) extend almost 1,000 kilometers (600 miles) along the moon’s surface. They suggest that Charon’s crust may have experienced widespread fracturing. In the northern hemisphere is a canyon (blue arrow) about 7 to 9 kilometers (4 to 6 miles) deep and a mysterious dark deposit (green arrow) at the pole.
