Model (1/24 scale) of the first Allied jet aircraft, the Gloster E.28/39 Pioneer. The E.28/39 was the airborne demonstrator for Sir Frank Whittle’s gas turbines. It made its first flight in May 1941. The Royal Air Force operated two examples into 1943 as they made plans for a jet fighter that went into service in 1944 as the Gloster Meteor.
