NASA’s Aqua satellite captured this image (left) of Cyclone Chapala over the Gulf of Aden. The next day, the storm made landfall over Yemen, flooding the region. It is very rare for a tropical cyclone to strike the Arabian Peninsula.
The Landsat 8 satellite captured these false-color images (right) of Yemen before and after the storm made landfall. Shades of blue and green indicate standing or flowing waters. Near the coast, several kilometers of land were flooded.
