On November 11, 2015, the Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (Suomi NPP) satellite captured this image (left) of Madagascar. The close-up (right) reveals little red boxes among patches of smoke. The boxes indicate the location of active fires. Dozens of small fires burned across Madagascar that day, mainly on the east coast. While some may have occurred naturally, most were probably set to clear land or were caused by accident.
