    On the morning of June 15, 2012, astronomy educators at the Observatory took an image of the Moon in its waning crescent phase. Only a few days later it reached new Moon, becoming invisible to us. 

    This image was originally taken with a black and white camera, and color was added back into it during photo processing. The dark crater about halfway up the Moon is Crater Grimaldi. If you look up a labeled map of the Moon, you'll be able to identify more features.
