This image of the Sun was taken at the Phoebe Waterman Haas Public Observatory on July 26, 2013 at 11:02 am.
Two sunspots can be seen on the disk of the Sun. These dark spots are areas of increased magnetic activity on the Sun.
There are a few prominences around the edge of the disk. These features are magnetic loops that protrude out of the Sun's surface and into its atmosphere.
On the lower right side of the image there is a prominence that has detached from the Sun and is dispersing into space!
