The Crew of Apollo 1 during Training

Ed White (center), who made the first U.S. spacewalk on Gemini IV, died in a tragic fire on the launch pad during a test of the Apollo capsule on January 27, 1967. He, along with Gus Grissom and Roger Chafee who also lost their lives in that same fire, would likely have been among the first to go to the Moon had they survived.
