    Caption by Captain Samuel L. Batchelder: "Two of the best pictures of the war showing Germans busily preparing beach defences on the Normandy Coast. Note the scared German falling flat on his face in the mud in the upper photo. Two planes went out a month before D-Day to obtain these photos and one was lost. It was because of dangerous and important missions such as this one that the 7th Photo Group received a Presidential Unit Citation." (NASM-9A14039-070)
