Two right images: Gliders and paratroops on the ground on the morning of D-Day, June 6, 1944 Pre-invasion photography pinpointed suitable glider landing and paratroop drop zones, enabling the delivery of divisions of troops behind Axis beach positions who then secured key crossroads and bridges to allow the steady advance of infantry and equipment from the beaches.
