In the background is Mount Sharp, the layered peak within Mars’ Gale Crater. It rises about 5 kilometers (3 miles) above the crater floor. In the foreground is an outcrop of broken mudstone. The first rock drilled and sampled by the Curiosity rover was found in that outcrop. This image is an anaglyph (3-D Image). Viewing anaglyphs requires red-blue 3-D glasses.
