The mighty Saturn V — the rocket that launched the Apollo astronauts to the Moon in the 1960s and 70s — was powered in part by five F-1 engines producing a combined thrust of 7.5 million pounds.

In the “Transformational Technologies” video series, the National Air and Space Museum explores artifacts in its collection that changed our lives, transformed the way we viewed the world, or looked at an existing problem in a new way.
